Both antifoams and defoamers can be used to control foam—the only difference between these substances is when to use them. Antifoams prevent foam from forming in the first place, while defoamers eliminate existing foam. Colloids are stable suspensions of microscopic molecules or particles distributed throughout another substance, which is called a dispersion medium. Colloids are different from other types of suspensions because of their even distribution and the fact that they neither settle nor separate. They can be a combination of any type of liquid, gaseous, or solid colloids and dispersion media.

Silicone emulsions are heat-stable and non-toxic products that develop when silicone oil disperses within a liquid that contains an added surfactant. Silicone emulsions are water-repellent, anti-static, and non-stick, and they can safely replace organic solvents to meet various environmental, health, and safety regulations. AMS offers silicone emulsions with a variety of active levels and properties that can be used as supplied, diluted with water, or formulated into other products.
